Fiction Editing
Services
Substantive Editing:
My substantive editing service is primarily for fiction manuscripts
and short story. Fiction editing is significantly different from
non-fiction editing. You are not purchasing proofreading/copyediting
services.
I will provide you, the client, with suggestions to create a
polished manuscript. These suggestions cover clarity regarding point
of view, plot, character development, action orientation and
placement of characters. You’ll also receive ideas for replacing
passive verbs, cutting down on wordiness, eliminating clichés, and
notes regarding redundancy.
Before you purchase my services, you may submit one sample page free
of charge which I will edit and return to you. This will give us
both an opportunity to see if we suit. There is no limit as to the
amount you wish to have edited. You may submit a scene, a chapter, a
section, or an entire manuscript.
Please note: I do not edit or critique horror or explicitly graphic
fiction.
Fee
information:
• Substantive editing $1 per page (or a $5.00 minimum if you submit
less than five pages).
• Fees are calculated on the number of pages before editing.
• There is a minimum fee of $5.00
• For editing, you pay half the fee upon submission. When the first
half has been edited and returned to you, you decide if you want me
to complete the second half of the project. If yes, then you’ll
submit the other half of the fee.
A 200 page manuscript = pay $100 for first 100 pages then review my
work then pay $100 for second 100 pages.
This gives you an opportunity to stop the process if you are not
satisfied with the results.
Please do not pay until you have queried me with a sample page,
negotiated a time frame for your edit completion, or discussed
whether your manuscript content meets the above criteria. Fees are
non-refundable.
Critiques:
If you are not interested in substantive editing, but want an
unbiased reader’s opinion, I will read and provide a written
critique. My written critiques can run from three to ten pages
depending on the length of the manuscript or short story. The
critique covers writing mechanics, characterization, plot,
structure, setting, dialogue, internal and external narratives and
areas of strength and weakness. I will also comment on parts of the
story I liked and did not like and if there were any basic rules
overlooked. An example is showing instead of telling.
Please note: I do not edit or critique horror or explicitly graphic
fiction.
Fee
information:
• Critique is $20 for anything up to one hundred pages. Then add the
same fee for every additional one hundred or portion thereof. (A
manuscript of 150 pages pays a total of $40).
• Fees are calculated on the number of pages before editing.
• There is a minimum fee of $5.00

Submission
guidelines:
Query me with a sample page and basic manuscript content, i.e., no
horror or explicitly graphic writing. Turn around time varies
according to the number of pages you submitted, and the number of
clients already on the docket. Before you purchase the service, you
must receive approval and a time estimate from me. I am thorough and
do not operate under pressure. I want to do the best possible job
for you. If you have deadline issues, consider my time estimation
before submitting.
• Electronic Standard format in MS Word doc. = 8 1/2" x 11”,
double-spaced, 12 point font, 1” margins, Times Roman or Courier
font.
Your initial process will be faster if you follow the submission
guidelines. If I have to send something back because of formatting
issues, it slows down your turn around time. I am not responsible
for rejected or bounced email. Please set your email to allow for
communication.
